Our Story
Twisted Crypt was founded in 2013 by Peter Dunn and Matt Johnson, Rockford natives and Boylan Catholic graduates who have loved Halloween since they were teenagers. Even the Duson name is a nod to the two of them.
Thirteen seasons later, the haunt fills 10,000 square feet at 5420 East State Street with an award-winning cast, some of whom have been with The Family since the very first night.

- 2016 First Official Top Ten Haunted House in Illinois (HauntedIllinois.com)
- 2022 First annual Trunk or Treat for local families
- 2023 10th season
- 2024 #10 on Haunted House Chicago’s Top 13
- 2025 Most Interactive Attraction (The Scare Factor) and #10 on the Top 13 again
- 2026 13th season, a new butcher room and the Twisted Darkness opening night
